Tomorrow we take the train to Lisboa and, as long as things remain as expected, our flight to Toronto on Monday at 11h15. We have heavy hearts today, not only because we are leaving this place we love so much and heading back to Canada five weeks sooner than expected but also because we feel safe here and we are leaving the safety of this place and heading out into the business of chaos and risk. It’s just a bit unsettling.
In any case, the boxes and suitcases are packed and we are well organized for returning the car then catching the train. It won’t be a rushed day as the train doesn’t leave until 14h15.
I enjoyed one final walkabout this morning, camera in hand. I discovered we have new neighbours!!!!
I’ve never seen cows here in Estoi before, which made this quite a surprise. As always, the wildflowers give me such pleasure. It was a delight to see so many poppies since our rain this week. One day they aren’t there and the next they are tall in the air dancing around!
The sky was crystal clear down over Faro and Olhão, so clear you could see the shimmer on the sea. I took this with my zoom but keep in mind, this is about 10 km from here.
Pat and Gary, who have also been self-isolating, invited the three of us over for a goodbye lunch, which was such a welcome diversion. A great meal on their terrace followed by two rousing games of Dixit…….followed by a marvellous walk along an old isolated country road. Pat and Gary also have new neighbours.
And here we sit, lovely jazz music in the background, a small ambient fire in the woodstove, each of us engrossed in our own final activity of the evening and trying not to focus on what tomorrow might really bring.
Till the next time.
Will miss you blog. Be careful in travelling. Wishing you the best. Happy to have met you and hope we will meet up again ..in Portugal.

Safe travels to all & hope your flight gets out. It is a different time that is foreign to all of us. So, we are all trying to self isolate with hopes that it doesn’t last too long. Stay safe my friends!
