Journée de la famille

Storm Leonardo continues to wreak havoc in Portugal with flooding, strong winds, and in many places, extensive destruction. We are lucky here that the worse we are experiencing, other than winds, is the constant disruption to our electricity. Last evening the breakers kept flipping off every few minutes and it’s continued this afternoon as the winds have picked up however, considering what others are facing, we’ve no right to complain.

We haven’t strayed far from home today, therefore, not much to report but we did enjoy a delightful visit, then lunch out, with Marc’s cousin, Line and her husband Benoît. It’s always a pleasure spending time with them, many laughs and fascinating conversations.

After a visit at our place we headed just down the road to Restaurante Horta, where over half the parking lot and the large field next door are completely submerged in rain water. The earth simply cannot absorb it as it’s drenched.

Benoît, Line et Marc all ordered the Tagine de frango marroquino (I forgot to take a photo of the interior) the scents wafting up from the open tagine were tantalizing!

Me, I opted for a big lunch today, Pernil de Borrego Assado (roasted leg of lamb). I practically licked my plate. It too was flavoured in a Moroccan style and the scent, heaven.

And truly, that’s it for us today. We did make a trip to a couple of grocery stores to pick up a couple of things but that tends to be part of our daily routine, almost not worth mentioning, although we do love the grocery stores and perusing the shelves just to see things.

We’re hoping for less disruption to our electricity this evening to perhaps allow us to watch a film but, if not, we can at least access our books.

Stay tuned.

  1. We connected with a favourite YouTube of a couple in central Portugal, Sentra area. The storms have been massively destructive. Trees uprooted and roof tiles flying off, no internet, electric disruptions.
Horta is a real find. Envy both the tagine and lamb. You guys have fine taste.

    1. Yes this storm is quite powerful and creating such a mess for folks. I don’t know how the people in the north are doing right now. In Alcoutim, the river has risen up to the road!! Imagine. My lamb today was tender, succulent, and such intense flavours. Little bits of raisins and apricots mixed in the sauce. We should chat soon?

Wow, I am hoping for you that the weather progressively gets better! Hoping it doesn’t migrate further north and east! Don’t want it in Paris when we get there!!

    1. Leonardo should be gone by Tuesday. Goodness knows where he will head. Spain too is really soaked right now and much damage occurring. What dates do you head to Paris?? I’ll keep positive that you will enjoy only lovely weather.
