An early morning departure found us arriving at Cabo de São Vicente around 10h15 with temperatures of low 20’s, perfect for a walk about. Sadly the main area is locked and you cannot walk out to enjoy some of the spectacular views. I’m sure there must be a good reason for it. It didn’t stop us from enjoying the sun, sea, a little shopping from the roadside vendors, and a lovely walk along the cliff tops.
I’m not at all sure how they climbed down there but, there they were!Spectacular coastlineMore coastlineThey were on the opposite side of the road getting their photo taken by a passerby. I’ve a great zoomThe lighthouseLocal vendors, doing a great business todayCictus growing all along the cliff topsI love these
Once we felt saturated by all there was to see and enjoy we headed into Sagres, found a terrace and enjoyed beverages then Wendy, Norm, and I walked down towards the sea to take in the views. It was a great day for surfers.
This lovely specimen stood out near the cafeThey were lined up waiting for waves. These two were just getting ready to head out.The views, and waves, were amazing. A surfing school and todays classHe tried and tried but fell each timeShe road the wave for what seemed like forever
Eventually we piled back in the car and headed off towards Lagos, destination, lunch! The drive through the countryside was lovely today, but busy. We had to take our time as there no hurry and we couldn’t have it we’d wanted to!
Look at that sky!I always love seeing this yellow against the skyLooking back towards the seaNorm and Wendy, hungry and happyMe and him!Alheira is a traditional Portuguese sausage made from poultry, game meats, and bread, originally created by the Jewish community to avoid pork consumption.bochechas de porcoBeet and fresh cheese saladThis rich fig, almond, and carob cake is inspired by the Algarve regionPudim de mel
Lunch was delectable and we (as we always do) enjoyed simply sitting, relaxing, engaging with the server, and soaking it all in. Of course it usually means we have to walk for a bit afterwards, simply to help with digestion but also, today with the food and sun combination, to stay awake!!
Street sceneColours are wonderfulA local artist.Another by the same personA busy squareCurly, Larry, and Moe are still following me!I liked this perspectiveTours heading out from the main harbourSpectacular viewsAnd more gorgeous viewsA bunch of teenagers playing, they were having such fun I didn’t notice till now, all men on this section of the beachTell me they don’t look happy?
And finally, a final stop for this very full and wonderful day, Praia de Nossa Senhora da Rocha. Towering cliffs, turquoise water, and a historic chapel perched above the sea all packed into one picture-perfect cove and as Wendy had told me she wanted to see some of the “cliff”, I thought this place offered everything she might enjoy.
This very happy man was feeding his flock and he gave me such a smile when I asked if I could take his photoWhat a viewI wish I could share in the sound, scent, and feeling of being thereWendy and Norm enjoying a full day out and aboutMarco is starting to feel weariness from all this activity. He’s been such a sport.Beach goersSomebody has decorated the trees with shells. A view of the cove beside the chapel..
As this was Marc’s and my first trip to the west coast in a couple of years, I think we enjoyed it all as much as Wendy and Norm did! We four are now back home, weary, but happy as clams from our excursion. One more day for our friends then sadly they will head back to Canada, but not before one more outing. Stay tuned.
