Pottering about

My sister, Beverley, sent me this today, it about sums it up for me.

The days continue to disappear and thank goodness for my blogs as it’s the only way I can look back and see exactly what it is I’ve been up to! All I know for certain is, I get up and I eventually go back to bed.

Marc and I had a few errands to take care of today plus a lunch date with James as he heads off to start his journey back to Canada tomorrow. While Marc took care of a few things around the house I headed off with my camera in hand, just to have a bit of a wander around our neighbourhood to see what new delights Mother Nature might have in store for me. I always maintain, she never disappoints.

Once our errands were taken care of we came home, put everything away and decided to head back to Sao Bras, park, and enjoy a slow meander around the old part of town. We also wanted to make sure the restaurant we had chosen was open, if not, we had a plan B.

The old town in Sao Bras is a bit like an art gallery onto itself. There is much colour, uniqueness, and beauty.

Last week, Easter Sunday, was the special “torch festival” in Sao Bras, we didn’t go this year as we’ve been to many and we weren’t up to the crowds that usually show up. Today we noticed one of the main “decorations” was still in place and as I was taking a photo of it a young boy, perhaps 14 or 15, was going by on his bike. He saw me take the photo, stopped riding, and came over to us to spend some time telling us the history of the festival. It was such a Portuguese moment for us as the people are consistently kind, generous, and giving of themselves, especially in sharing cultural things. He didn’t speak a lot of English but with his limited ability, and our in Portuguese, along with a translation too, it was a very special moment.

By now it was time to head and meet James. As we walked towards the restaurant we noted that our plan B was closed until April 20th for holidays. When we arrived at the designated restaurant, James was there as well as a sign in the window, closed until April 25th. Oops!!! No plan C but we quickly came up with one. I scurried back, got the car, then drove to pick up James and Marc and off to O Restaurante Fiel , a wonderful place here in town we’ve eaten a few times. It never fails to please and that’s exactly how it was today.

In a nutshell, as the monkey said, I’ve been busy all day and I don’t know what I’ve done! Safe travels James.

P.S. When we got up this morning, George was gone!!!! Searched but I couldn’t find him. Let’s hope he didn’t find his way upstairs!!

  1. You are so right – a day goes by and I have no idea what I’ve done. You’re also correct in saying I’m not ready to leave! Btw, the church continues to be decorated for Easter because the R.C. Church and others celebrate Easter until Pentecost: fifty days after Easter Sunday. They aren’t being lazy or hadn’t got around to it. There are never enough round to its.

    1. Well there, now I know……..but you’ll probably have to remind me again next year. LOL

  2. Retirement is like that.. days rolling along.
I agree São Bras is so wonderful to stroll through. Enjoy your last couple of weeks.

    1. Thanks….we are living in every moment

  3. Gates, Doors, and Windows ……me too. Thanks for sharing

    1. Wouldn’t we make great traveling companions?

  4. You are so right…retirement such a joy and it is so easy to while time away. I am so grateful for my calendar…to remember what I did yesterday, be present for today and be organized for tomorrow! And, to make a list as not to forget certain things! And then again, sometimes, I forget to make a list! Oh well! One thing that I am consistent in, like you, is being grateful for every day, rain or shine, and to find joy in simple things that can be taken for granted. I pray I never become complacent!
Now, about those Portuguese skies, filled with billowy clouds! Breathtaking! So amazing!
Enjoy your last couple of weeks…it’s been a beautiful read for all your followers! 🤗

    1. And grateful we are, every moment of every day. It’s another heaven sent day here today..
