Sand Sand Go Away!

Sunday will always be a special day for us here in the Algarve. It’s quiet, tranquil, impossibly slow, like cold molasses, and we love it. We feel no compunction to be anywhere, or really, to have any special plans for the day. For me it’s like days of yore.

We started this Sunday on our back terrace with Marc’s wonderful crepes stuffed with poached pears, strawberries, yoghurt, cheese, and of course, maple syrup. The entire time being serenaded by this chubby Great Tit, who simply wouldn’t let up. We loved it.

Discussion skirted around what we might get up to for the day and consensus was, not a whole lot! We knew we didn’t want to be in a car for any length of time, we didn’t want to stay home, and as the sand was still heavy in the air, we didn’t really want to be walking outside for very long. We finally settled with a decision to at least “start” the day with a trip to the Monterosa Olive Oil Farm near Moncarapacho to get some oil to take back to Canada. Off we headed.

NOT OPEN ON SUNDAY! OK, how about a drive to the Faro Beach and perhaps lunch on the patio at Wax. Off we headed.

A very high tide, probably the highest I’ve seen there, and the boardwalks covered in beach sand, obviously from the winds of the past few evenings. Today however was very warm, a tiny breeze, and the terrace not at all congested, all the elements working in our favour. We sat and enjoyed a light lunch, reminiscing of past visits (many with Harald and Bela), (one with Laurie on her last day in Portugal where we nearly blew away but refused to go inside), and on they went. We have so many memories here in Portugal after all these years that it’s somewhat astounding.

After lunch a lovely stroll along part of the main drag and down to the end near the fishermen’s village, where I managed to get a few lovely shots.

From there we decided to head into Olhão and enjoy a drink beside the sea, near the market buildings. This reminded me that there were two things I had been wanting to stop and take photos of, one new from this year and another I had been wanting to see up close for a few years. I love goals!!

I saw this house earlier in our trip and wanted to stop and take a photo. I love so much about it.
This property has been for safe for a couple of years. I’d love to know the history behind it. And here is what it looks like inside the garden…..what a surprise for me.

These are all life sized statues. Of course they are reproductions but one has to wonder why they are where they are, in this large empty garden with this tiny little house the sort of looks prefab, In any case, I am so happy I finally stopped to capture it all.

From there, off to Olhão, a relaxing hour on a terrace overlooking the sea, a cold beverage, great conversation, some people watching then off we headed with a stop Chez Pat and Gary’s, a visit with them as well as Sandy and Susan and then, in a very dirty sandy orange coloured car, to home. A perfectly wonderful Sunday in paradise. And, my favourite shot of the day…..

E começa uma nova semana

I absolutely love that blue house. It has such character.

could it be that the people who lived in the small house made statues??? There were many.

    sounds like a great day!

    1. I too love that house. The statues, no idea. It’s a property on the outskirts of Olhão, really in the middle of nowhere. It’s a mystery.

    1. LOL. The only thing on the fence is a phone number not a web site or person. I just might, out of morbid curiosity, call them before I leave here. Can’t believe our time is winding down. Big Hugs
