AS the time here in Portugal starts to wind down for us there are always a few things we like to try and squeeze in, and of course one of those is getting together for hikes and meals. Today was a repeat trip to hike at the wonderful Barranco do Velho. Two objectives: first on my agenda was to find the lavandula viridis, commonly known as green lavender or white lavender; and the second was to dine one more time on the terrace at Tia Bia. Success on both counts!

All of our hikes are slightly different from each other and because we ae here for extended periods, each hike is somewhat different as the season, and wildflowers, evolve. I love this particular walk as it can be challenging at times but you don’t have to be a great hiker, or be in tip top shape to enjoy it, which means we all have a good time. Here is a sampling of some of the flora from today.

And of course then there is the wildlife!!

And then, the green lavender. I never tire of seeking it out each year and taking pleasures in the find.

The views throughout the walk are always a treat and today Mother Nature had provided us with the company of large patches of heather, (white and pink) during most of the walk but especially at the end of the trail.

There are always a few pleasure finds along the route as well….

It was a grand and glorious day in so many ways and as always, I feel blessed to have this wonderful group of friends to share it all with. Tia Bia was, as always, a huge success and coming together and sharing a meal is the most communal and binding thing in almost every place in the world and today, not an exception.

Looked like a wonderful hike around the countryside for all & lovely flora to enjoy! I had a few crocus peeking through the ground this week & then along came 32cm of snow yesterday. Hope they survive these snow & I can see them again! Nice pictures of everyone.
