Exploring the Eastern Algarve

Our heavenly blue skies and that gorgeous yellow orb we haven’t seen for a few days, both showed up big time today, and what a treat it’s been.

We had planned a day of wanderings, heading east, that in many ways exceeded our expectations with the find of a marvelous artisan market in Cacela Velha and a lunch time feast near the sea.

We started by heading to the gypsy market that I thought was in Vila Nova de Cacela but as we raced along the R270 towards there, we were driving through Santa Catarina da Fonte do Bispo and suddenly, there it was, the market for today!!! A quick uturn, parking, and off we went to explore.

Our next stop was Cacela Velha where, as I mentioned, we stumbled on a wonderful market. Very well attended and so many wonderful things to buy, and or simply look at.

From here we headed along to Altura, the objective was to have a grand walk along the boardwalk and then enjoy lunch beside the sea. Marc took care of negotiating a reservation in the sunshine, on the terrace, and we ended up with a great spot. In the meantime Wendy, Norm, and I enjoyed a lovely hour long stroll.

Sitting in the sun with the sea pounding nearby, soaking it all in and enjoying lovely wine while we waited for food, I swear it made the food taste that much better. Both Marc and I were thrilled for all this sunshine for Wendy and Norm, it’s great that they get to experience this part of Portugal that we love and enjoy so very much.

From here, one last stop, Cabana. Another grand walk about, another relaxing sit down at a terrace in the sun, and finally the trip home. A very full day we’ve enjoyed.

I’m going to close with another of Marc’s wonderful videos but before I do, here’s something that is bound to make you smile and will tell you what we’ve had to put with all week!!

Sit back and enjoy this wonderful video, you’ll feel as if you were there with us.

  1. What a fantastic day you had. Both markets look well attended with some interesting wares. Great photos and excellent video.

    1. Thanks Debbie, it was such a full day and we loved every moment. Hope you’re both enjoying the sun’s return.

  2. Wow!! Thanks for letting us virtually stroll around with you all. What fine.markets.
    Wendy, I like her style!lol

    1. LOL, Wendy sends thanks. I know for sure that you two would be instant buddies

  3. LMAO well the picture of the guy with one jean leg pulled up got me going. LOL I must have giggled for about 5 minutes at that. It does make you wonder if he even realized that one pant leg is up. Just too funny.
Marc is looking very fresh and spring like today. I love his light blue shirt and his cream jacket together. Keep rocking it Marco.
Lots of lovely picture of you and Marc, very relaxed looking.
All the food looked lovely today. The steak that Norm had, was it a pork steak? Or a tuna steak? When you say steak, I automatically think beef. That did not look like beef however.
    I love those tiled stairs.
LOL @ Wendy in that last picture. It’s good to let loose and have fun.
As usual, I enjoyed the video. When Marc went into the chapel and stood there in the middle aisle, recording everything I was here whispering, for goodness sakes Marc, get out of the chapel with that camera! Fine to be in there when there’s not a service going on, but you’re in the middle of a service. LOL I felt like I should duck down or go behind a pillar. LMAO
You’re all having a wonderful time, I love it.
    Love and hugs.

    1. LMAO. It turns out that that poor man had a huge surgery on the front of his knee and that’s why his pants were pulled up. Who knew? We’re having such a great time together, the four of us, and I can’t tell you the laughing we are doing. It was a beef steak, and Norm inhaled it!

  4. Great video. That was some monkfish kabob. Glad you have had a great time. Safe travels Wendy and Norm.

    1. Thanks darlin’, your name has come up a few times so in a way, you are here with us. Wendy and Norm don’t want to go home!!! Big Hugs

  5. What a well planned vacation for Wendy and Norm that you and Marc have planned, fabulous! All the ā€˜unplanned’ absurdities, the whimsical, creative artworks, the odd clothing attires, the unexpected sightings and the entire tone of the markets are so delightful! Time spent in the markets is such great fun, it is similar to being in a movie! I was actually doing some ā€˜shopping’ as Marco wandered with his camera! And, needless to say, that’s the closest I have been to ā€˜going to Mass’ in years!
Yes, Wendy and Norm will be planning their return to the Algarve before they leave no doubt! All your smiles speak volumes! Loved this blog and video!

    1. Yes, I would imagine you would have dropped a euro or two at those markets. It sure was fun to stumble on the second one. So happy you are enjoying the videos.
