Joyeux Anniversaire a Marc!!!!!! Today is dedicated to the man himself (he won’t like all this attention) and his birthday.
It all started with smoked salmon, cream cheese, toast, and (for him) green tea! Me, strong dark coffee and fabulous home made orange jam/marmalade from our visit of yesterday….OMG….incredible.
As it was Saturday, which implies market day, we headed off to the Mercado de São Brás, parked the car a few blocks away and enjoyed the walk through a small gypsy market, a lovely neighbourhood, and finally, the mercado, where we bought fresh cheese, oregano, bay leaves, artichokes and fresh strawberries. (We’re trying to get our fill before we leave in a week).
Marc had chosen to head into the mountains and dine at Tia Bia for his birthday lunch and we were lucky that Debbie and Fred were free to join us. A circuitous route, because of a detour, was gorgeous through old cork forests, carob trees, hairpin turns, and deep green valleys. We had a table on the terrace, happily in the shade as it hit 28 degrees, and enjoyed a wonderful visit, food, and a celebration of the man of the moment.
The food, as always, was plentiful and delicious.
A lovely drive in the countryside, winding around precarious turns and deep valleys to visit Javili and Parises, where we are already planning hikes for 2027 and finally home…………and what better way to end our day than this……..
