Another Christmas in History!

You know those times when things go perfect, even when you’ve put little effort into making that happen?  Well that’s exactly how our Christmas turned out.  I don’t think we could have orchestrated a more perfect three or four days if we had tired.

Fabulous visits and meals with friends on the 23rd and the 25th and just the two of us on the 24th.  A sunny and warm Christmas Day, we enjoyed breakfast then headed off the Santa Swim, which has been a regular event Armação de Pêra for 13 years and is organised by the Holiday Inn Algarve to raise money for local charities.  Gwen introduced me to it last year and Marc hadn’t been so… we headed.

From here we headed to Porches, another small coastal town.  Enjoyed a walk along the bluffs, a bic and then wound our way towards home to get the turkey stuffed and in the oven.

Christmas dinner was sublime, Gwen McCauley joined us for a second year and it was a pretty special evening.  Great food, lots of laughter and the occasional raunchy story!!!  I “unveiled” my Christmas cake and ….Oh My Goodness…….you have to be of drinking age to enjoy a slice.  I think I overdid it on the brandy.

IMG_0905 Yesterday morning Marc and I headed off to Lisboa for a night in order to collect our friend James Armstrong at the Lisboa airport this morning.  The drive was uneventful.  Marc made us a wonderful turkey salad, we stopped onroute, picked up water and a bica, enjoyed our “picnic” and arrived at our hotel around 13h15.

Once we dropped our knap-sacks we hit the street to breath in some of what Lisboa had to offer in terms of Christmas decorations etc..  We weren’t disappointed.  I think in all we must have wandered for three or four hours……a few of our shots.

The temperature in Lisboa was considerably cooler than what we had left in the Algarve and by the time we headed back to the hotel we were a wee bit cool and certainly tired.  We decided to sit in the hotel bar and it turned out to be just the two of us……a cold beer for me, glass of vino tinto for Marc and we sat, chatting and listening to Christmas carols.  A very pleasant close to our long day.

This morning we headed to the airport and after a lengthy wait, James arrived…….

ORG-DSC00790He was grinning from ear to ear despite a long delayed flight and we of course are thrilled to have him here with us for a couple of weeks.  We got ourselves tucked into the car and made the 3.5 hour trek home………..and that’s where we are now……..safely ensconced at “home”……..James getting settled and fighting to stay awake……..Marc enjoying a little lay down following a not so great night and me………blogging.  Anew phase now begins and I personally can’t wait to show James all the wonderful things I love about being here.

  1. So happy to meet you James…hoping you enjoy your time in the Algarve. We are in a deep freeze here across Canada. Here’s a wish that it’ll be all over by the time you get back. Enjoy the moments.

  2. Welcome James!!!! I hope you have a fantastic trip, one that will have you wanting to go back again one day. 🙂

Randy your fruitcake looks like it’s laden down with booze!!!! You’re all going to be drunk if you eat much of that in one sitting. LOL
